The review states that PerfectDisk does the best and most thorough defragmenting, is easy-to-use, easy to deploy, offers the best value - well, the words used were "outstanding value" - and is backed up by knowledgeable technical support. Election year or not, The Sheriff is still in charge

On April 26, 2007, Donn Edwards, sheriff of The Great Defrag Shootout, posted Part I of his extensive and wildly popular review of defrag programs. Just like the Super Bowl in the United States, Donn has chosen to use Roman numerals to report his findings, and he's now over XXX -- and presumably not stopping. He's written about the well-known, the lesser-kown, and the obscure. He's come up with his winners -- in commercial and freeware categories. And he stays on top of the issue - hearing the advice and arguments of others, listening to constructive criticism, and reviewing updates of the latest and greatest from vendors and developers.

Which brings us to Donn's February 8, 2008 post and review of PerfectDisk 2008. A few points from the review:

• "I particularly appreciate the message that estimates the time it will take to complete the defrag."
• "The defrag algorithms have been tweaked for improved performance, to cater for massive drive sizes, as well as improved performance, particularly on laptop drives."
• "...the new StealthPatrol...is a much better option than the 'all the time' type of automatic defrag, because it is less likely to interfere with normal work."
• "I have no problem in recommending PerfectDisk 2008 to new users as the best commercial defrag program available."

As always, it's an honest review and Donn makes it known when he feels there are shortcomings.

Tidbits -- news, reviews and awards

Here are a few recent news items from Raxco Software I thought you might be interested in:

• Raxco Software has joined VMware's Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) Program at the Select level. This formalizes the relationship we've already established with VMware over the last several months as we put together the PerfectDisk for VMware product.

               

• A new, fairly extensive review of PerfectDisk 2008 from Softpedia is out. It states, among other observations, that PerfectDisk 2008's "efficiency is off the charts and you can feel it the moment the defragmentation is over. The application really defragments all the the files available on the drive, regardless of their nature." You can read the entire review here.

               

• PerfectDisk Rx Suite has won the top award for hard disk drive maintenance from Vector Professional, Japan's largest online software download website.

A quick tip of the hat to Greg Hayes, Raxco Software's very own Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP). Greg has been an MVP since 2003. MVPs are awarded for their demonstrated technical expertise, willingness to help others and commitment to technical communities.

Greg's award is for the area of Windows Server System - File System/Storage. Besides his contributions outside the company, those of us inside benefit from his deep knowledge of the Windows file systems. And everyone also benefits from a better disk defragmentation utility.

As another year passes, Raxco salutes Greg, a big part of our success...and we know he's helped many of you experience your own successes.

I'm happy to announce more high-profile recognition for PerfectDisk. This one is from the highly reputed Download.com (part of CNET). The Editor's review can be read here, and is entitled "This close to perfect." The editor points out a few of PerfectDisk's highlights and states that the product "picks up where Window's Disk Defragmenter leaves off."

Download.com also has lots of users' reviews on PerfectDisk, where it's achieved an average rating of 4.5 stars out of a possible 5. But we don't expect anyone to believe anyone's rating other than their own. That's why we tell home users, small business users, corporate users, Microsoft MVPs and anyone else - try it for yourself.

We're proud...and fortunate

One of the things we pride ourselves in here at Raxco, besides the technology, is our technical support and service. It may sound trite, but we do regularly remind ourselves that ultimately it really is all about the customer. We know that despite what we may think, as much as we may want the world to see things in a way that we might see them, it comes down to what our users think. If one of us ever loses site of that, there's a colleague that puts us in our place real quickly.

Which brings me to....Greg Hayes. Many of you have likely interacted with Greg, either via email communication, online user group, seen him speak at a user group, or met him at a trade show. Recently, Microsoft awarded Greg as a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP). Of the tens of thousands of IT professionals around the world, only a select few receive this honor from Microsoft. MVPs are awarded for their demonstrated technical expertise, willingness to help others and commitment to technical communities. As Rich Kaplan, Microsoft Vice President of Customer Service, Partners and Automation said to me, "all of us at Microsoft recognize and appreciate Greg's extraordinary contribution." Greg exemplifies what Raxco tries to accomplish every time we interact with a customer. We are glad he's on the Raxco team.

Proud of our Latest Awards

On September 1^st, 2006, Windows and IT Pro Magazine announced the winners of its 2006 Readers’ Choice Awards. Raxco Software is delighted to be the recipient of the readers’ choices for best defrag utility (PerfectDisk) and best storage management utility (PerfectDisk for Exchange) for the second consecutive year.

While it is nice to be a winner, it’s most satisfying to know that a group of solid Windows system administrators – the real users and evaluators of tools to make their lives easier – believe in what we are doing and the tools we have built. We think it validates that it’s not all about marketing and telling stories. While we understand that marketing and getting the word out is important, we know that in the world of technology it is ultimately not about smoke and mirrors – it’s about adding real value. In our case, it’s about providing real value for an administrator or computer user so they can go about doing their job better and more efficiently.

That’s why we think things like our optimizing a disk as opposed to merely defragmenting it and consolidating free space are things that make a difference – in a product, and ultimately in what someone does with it.
