PerfectDisk at Super Bowl XLIII

                        

Well, no...there will not be a commercial for PerfectDisk 10 this Sunday during Super Bowl XLIII. And none of us here are attending the game in Tampa. But you can bet many of those in attendance and some of the players are PerfectDisk defrag users. And I can tell you that the NFL Players Association uses PerfectDisk at its headquarters in Washington, DC. So do the Seattle Seahawks and a few other NFL teams.

                          

As a New England Patriots fan, last year's Super Bowl was not the perfect ending for me! This year, I'll just sit back and enjoy the game and commercials.

PerfectDisk 10 Day 2 -- On we go

                               

It was a busy launch day for PerfectDisk 10 and it's now blended into Day 2, which is really just an extension of Day 1, as the activity level has been more furious than we've ever seen here at headquarters. There is a steady stream of downloads and visitors to our new web site, and thousands of downloads are occurring hourly, non-stop. The interest level seems almost equally divided between the new revolutionary virtualization solution for VMware ESX Server and Microsoft Hyper-V environments, Windows 7 support, the new Home Edition, and general PerfectDisk Pro and Server core functionality for system performance enhancements.

                                        

For the most part, things have gone smoothly. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't questions or a few problems here and there. We are doing our best to respond to everyone as quickly as possible. If you experience any delay in trying to reach us, please be patient as we are working furiously to get to all requests. We're also battling an ice storm here in the Washington DC metro area that is making driving and just walking very treacherous, so some of the staff that didn't sleep at their desks are doing their best to make it in. Ingram Micro's and others' warehouses are full of new CDs, and the final preparations are being made.

George Menegakis is an IT consultant for OTE, Greece's largest telecommunications company. Enhanced control at the console including virtualization

                                    

The PerfectDisk Command Center has provided enterprises with the central management necessary to deploy, configure, manage and report on defragmentation across their workstation and server networks. The many customizable alerts and warnings, remote management, and advanced reporting have made the Command Center a key piece of enterprises utilizing PerfectDisk.

With the next version, the Command Center gets a new name -- Enterprise Console -- to more accurately describe this component of the PerfectDisk family. Included are new configuration management and configuration reporting to allow administrators to more easily create and assign configuration profiles and report on configurations used. Also, new "smart" reports provide a dynamic combination of report tables and pie charts, greatly enhancing the visual aspect of the console.             

There will be a new VMware vCenter Server Plug-in that will provide VMware datacenters to enhance their automated datacenter operations with integration to the PerfectDisk console for better central management. And enhanced virtualization reports that show fragmentation issues across a virtual environment.

And finally, new integration with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 allows the console to seamlessly integrate with Micrsoft SCOM 2007.

The Obamas to the White House; Bush to Texas; PerfectDisk to both their homes?

                                               

Here in Washington, DC, the Obama family is just about ready to move down the street from their hotel to the White House. And while the questions about whether Barack will be able to keep his Blackberry continues, there will be a PC or 2 in their new home. With his daughters now off to their new school, I'm sure they will be spending plenty of time at their PC doing school work, playing games, and emailing friends (at least I think they can use email without threatening national security).                                  

And George Bush heads off to Texas to clear brush and probably start writing his memoirs on his computer. I'm not sure if he gets to use email again.

In any event, we've got just the thing for both families. Whatever you think about either of these two, you might be able to agree that they want a computer that runs fast, but they may not be too interested in some of the bells and whistles that more power users might want. They have (and had) enough to do with their power.

Vista, Windows Server 2008, Hyper-V -- certified

                         

You wouldn't go to an inaugural ball without your best threads on, right? Or to a black-tie awards dinner. Or to the prom. So as we put ourselves together for our coming out party, have to make sure we're certified on Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V.

There's no place like (Windows) Home (Server)

                                     

Microsoft's Windows Home Server really has been quite a success. Even with some technical issues, it's been very well received from its launch. And there is aways a lot going on with the OS, and some great reporting and regular updating at the WeGotServed, MSWHS, and German Home Server blogs, to mention a few. For all you WHS users, if you want to keep up on the latest WHS version (Vail), scheduled for release in 2010, these are the places to go to get your information.

We've had a great response to PerfectDisk in the WHS environment, and this group of users is not to be forgotten as we move forward. All the new things you've been reading about go hand-in-hand with PerfectDisk for Windows Home Server. Speed. Function. Form.
