Donn Edwards is a database programmer who runs a small software company out of Johannesburg, South Africa. I don't know how it happened, but somewhere along the lines, Donn became, in his own words, a "defrag junkie." And heretofore I had thought they only worked for Raxco Software....
At the beginning of this saga, Donn had 3 defragmenters on his system, including PerfectDisk and Windows' built-in defragmenter. Well, Donn went out and created his "Great Defrag Shootout" which now has 17 parts! Freeware, commercial software - Donn has looked at it all. Is this the definitive word on defragmentation? No. It's just one guy's opinion. But he has done some interesting and thorough testing. He knows to dig a little deeper at real world issues like full disks and available free space, not just a perfect environment.
Donn likes PerfectDisk - but he doesn't like everything about it. And that's why I find his input and observations useful. And we certainly agree on some things and disagree on others. But it's this kind of observation and discussion that ultimately leads to better software and solutions for the consumer. And that's why we do value all input. It doesn't mean we please everyone all the time, but we listen.
So check out one man's Great Defrag Shootout. Maybe you'll become a defrag junkie yourself.
Nice one! Just grabbed it from the store.
