Probably since the first reviewers, analysts and gurus started writing about Vista, there's been a lot written about Vista's Aero user interface having a negative impact on computer performance. And the "airwaves" continue to be filled with ongoing discussion about the topic - everyone from gamers to business users. From my perspective, one thing that is clear is that to take full advantage you'll need some new hardware, and the fact that various drivers aren't yet ready could pose a problem.
Of course, you knew Microsoft would not sit by and let all this discussion go on without response. Microsoft now has a new Windows Performance Blog, complete with results of a new funded study that reports - surprise! - Vista performance stacks up favorably to XP.
We'll all have to make our own conclusions as we implement Vista in various environments. One thing we do know - as does Microsoft....fragmentation is still an issue, and if you want a third-party defragger for Vista, PerfectDisk is your only answer right now.
